A bridge is a long-lasting solution to replace one or more missing teeth.

What is a bridge?

A dental bridge is a fixed and long-lasting dental treatment for missing teeth. A conventional bridge consists of a support with a prosthetic tooth which is held in place by crowns on healthy adjacent teeth.

An adhesive bridge requires minimal preparation to the teeth either side of the gap left by a missing tooth. Modern dental adhesives hold the bridge in place.

Dental bridges are custom-made to match the appearance of your existing teeth and so are virtually invisible. A bridge makes eating and speaking easier with a full smile.

What is the procedure for a dental bridge?

If your dentist recommends a dental bridge, the treatment is generally spread over two appointments. For a conventional bridge, the dentist will begin by preparing the teeth on either side of the space. The teeth will be shaped to receive dental crowns which will then support the bridge.

Impressions of your teeth will then be taken and the dental laboratory will use the impressions to custom make a replacement tooth. Porcelain is a popular choice having a natural tooth colour.

During your second appointment, your permanent bridge will be set in place.

Is a dental bridge right for me?

If you have missing teeth, your dentist will advise you on the most appropriate treatment option. A dental bridge treatment may be considered if the teeth on either side of the gap are healthy and strong.

If you have already had dental restoration work or your teeth are unsuitable to support a bridge, your dentist will give you other treatment options.

How long does a bridge last?

Dental bridges are generally a long-lasting replacement for missing teeth. With a regular dental regime, a bridge can last upto 10 years.
